About Calais Dermatology Associates

Our goal at Calais Dermatology Associates is to provide each patient with a board-certified dermatologist who is trained in the most-advanced medical and surgical dermatological techniques and procedures. In conjunction with our professionally trained staff, Drs. Brantley and Patterson strive to provide each patient with professional, personable care in a comfortable, warm setting. We appreciate every patient who chooses to entrust us with their skin care needs. Our whole staff makes every effort to provide this care in a professional, timely manner. Our goal is to treat our patients as we would want to be treated.

Calais Dermatology Associates originally began in 1951 with Charles I. Black, M.D. Dr. Black practiced by himself until January of 1980 until Dr. John Brantley joined him in the practice of dermatology and dermatologic surgery.

They established Calais Dermatology Associates in December 1980 on their move to the present location of 5220 Flanders Drive by Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. The name Calais was taken from the original family that owned the land from what is now I-10 Essen Lane to the railroad tracks by Perkins Road.

In 1990, Dr. Black retired and Dr. Christopher McEwen joined the practice in 1995 after serving at Ochsner Clinic as the Head of Dermatology in Baton Rouge for 9 years. In September of 2010, Dr. Connor Patterson joined Dr. Brantley and McEwen to establish Calais Dermatology as a three-physician group, specializing in general dermatology and dermatologic surgery for over 60 years.
